Introducing the tVNS® Triggerbox

Our goal was and is to provide scientific institutions around the world with tools to explore innovative transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS®) protocols in research studies. In this context, we have equipped numerous research groups with our solutions in recent years.

On December 1, 2024, we are launching a new accessory that is derived from the feedback of recent years: the tVNS® Triggerbox. Why?

For years we have been offering full wireless parameter programmability and triggered tVNS®: With the tVNS® Research App you can wirelessly set a variety of parameters such as frequency, pulse width, current strength and stimulation intervals. In addition, we offer a separate PC-based tVNS® Manager software. This software enables the response to external trigger signals (e.g. ECG R-wave trigger generated by an external ECG system and transmitted to a PC). Thus, tVNS® with closed loop or triggered tVNS® can be realized in a scientific setup.

The challenge? Until now, coupling with external trigger signals was only possible via Bluetooth. The transmission of the trigger signal via Bluetooth is subject to certain latencies and fluctuations (jitter). This makes it difficult to establish robust test setups. In recent years, several research groups have repeatedly asked us how we can improve the latencies and fluctuations (jitter) in order to implement even more stable, reproducible closed-loop research protocols.

Our solution? The tVNS® Triggerbox

The tVNS® Triggerbox is a cable-bound system that reproducibly stabilizes latencies and fluctuations. The tVNS® Triggerbox is connected to the computer via a USB port. Do you already have tVNS® devices in use? No problem! The tVNS® Triggerbox can also be integrated into existing research setups. This was very important to us when designing it!

The tVNS® Triggerbox comes with an easy-to-use tVNS® API interface that significantly improves usability. The combination of the tVNS® Triggerbox and the new tVNS® API Server software guarantees better coupling of the devices in the experimental setups and simplifies the coordination of the different components.
